EUplantcropp-structuring-x

GENERAL

EUPLANTCROPP encompasses currently thirteen institutions and companies in six European countries (see map).
These offer, knowledge, facilities and services, to, public projects, public-private ones, and private ones, respectively.

ACHIEVEMENTS

EFFICACY OF COMPOUNDS

We assembled facilities and knowledge to explore extracts and compounds for plant protection efficacy using, (i) various metabolomics platforms, (ii) in-vitro bio-assays running on low-, medium- or high-throughput screening platforms depending on assay, and (iii) in-vivo bio-assays at a scale ranging from laboratory to field plots.
We are able to link the results of bio-activity testing to metabolomics analysis for the prediction of plant resistance based on metabolomics profiles. The multi-metabolomics and bio-assays datasets can be used to build and validate predictive models for plant resistance entering the field of genomics.

SAFETY & FOOD QUALITY

We also assembled facilities and knowledge to determine the safety, and impact on food quality, of efficacious extractions and compounds as these need to be tested for safety with respect to human beings and the environment. In addition, the food quality should not be affected by plant compounds irrespectively these are used as bio-pesticides, bred in, or stimulated by way of agricultural management. EUPLANTCROPP encompasses now (i) various targeted metabolomics platforms, (ii) in-vitro bio-assays running on low-, medium- or high-throughput screening platforms depending on assay, and (iii) in-vivo bio-assays at a scale ranging from laboratory to field plots.

STRATEGIC OUTLOOK

We will set further steps in integrating institutions and companies into the research infrastructure, agreeing on common standards, creating synergies by way of joint projects, and maximising the benefits of European visibility. Specifically, we will work on:

  • adoption and set-up of gold standards to employ the eco-metabolomics approach to sustainable crop protection in an excellent way;
  • set-up of an accreditation procedure to guarantee that the participating institutions and companies comply to the gold standards;
  • increase the number of members of EUPLANTCROPP with a special effort to engage institutions and companies in the East and North of Europe.
