Access to EUPLANTCROPP starts with filling out the contact form on the contact page. Subsequently, a case-manager will be assigned to you based on the crop protection problem indicated. The case manager will develop together with you an appropriate research strategy fitting in EUPLANTCROPP. Each of the case managers is an expert of specific crops and their pests and diseases. A research strategy includes one or more of three major building blocks: (i) use of plant sources and extractions, (ii) exploring extracts and compounds for plant protection efficacy, and (iii) exploring efficacious extractions and compounds for safety and food quality.

EFFICACY OF COMPOUNDS

Exploration of extracts and compounds for plant protection efficacy is performed using, (i) various metabolomics platforms, (ii) in-vitro bio-assays running on low-, medium- or high-throughput screening platforms depending on assay, and (iii) in-vivo bio-assays at a scale ranging from laboratory to field plots.
A challenge is to link the results of bio-activity testing to metabolomics analysis for the prediction of plant resistance based on metabolomics profiles. The multi-metabolomics and bio-assays datasets will be used to build and validate predictive models for plant resistance.

SAFETY & FOOD QUALITY

Plant compounds efficacious with respect to protecting plants need to be tested for safety with respect to human beings and the environment. In addition, the food quality should not be affected by plant compounds irrespectively these are used as bio-pesticides, bred in, or stimulated by way of agricultural management.
